Impact Coaching: What is Hypnosis?
Hello.
Hypnosis can probably help YOU!
Would you believe me if I told you that you’ve been hypnotized before? Maybe not professionally, but you have been in a trance before. Have you ever gotten lost in a good book? You were in trance. Have you ever watched a movie and had an emotional response to things that weren’t real, but only on the screen? You were in trance. This one is my favorite example. Have you ever been been driving somewhere, only to arrive at your destination and not quite remember how you got there? You were in trance.
Hypnosis is an altered state, or trance state, where a hypnotherapist can speak directly to your unconscious mind, bypassing your conscious (critical factor) mind for fast, long lasting change and life improvements.
Would you like to know what it feels like to be hypnotized? Close your eyes. [pause and count to five] Now, open your eyes. Kind of like that. Clients often laugh at this point in the session. But really, that’s what being hypnotized feels like. Nothing to be concerned about, right?
Have you ever had a thought or an idea pop into your head, only to have it beaten out of you by your "rational side"? Consider this: maybe your unconscious mind sends a great idea to your brain. As soon as your conscious (critical factor) mind gets wind of this idea, your negative self-talk attacks it.
Think of it like this, BEFORE HYPNOSIS: Unconscious mind – "You should put in for that promotion." Then the conscious mind goes off, "Are you seriously going to put yourself out there like that? You know the boss likes Nancy better than you. It’s probably just a waist of time." And, you do nothing. You get the same results as you always have in the past. Two months later after Nancy get the promotion. Conscious mind, "Wooo, I knew Nancy would get it. I’m glad I decided not to waist my time with applying for the promotion. My boss wouldn’t even consider me."
So how can hypnosis help in this situation? Let’s presume that you came to Chuck for a hypnosis session before your unconscious mind prompted you abut the promotion. Assuming we worked on improving your confidence or work goals during the session, it might go more like this… (I’ll give two scenarios here so you can see how life is impacted by hypnosis even if you don’t get the exact outcome you wanted.)
AFTER HYPNOSIS: Unconscious mind — "You should put in for that promotion." The new conscious mind encourages you, "That is a great idea. I’ve been thinking about how to move up in the company for a while now. This is a great opportunity. Nancy might apply for it too. Oh, well, she’ll get over not getting it. LET’S DO THIS." And, you apply for the job with a spring in your step and more confidence than your boss is use to seeing. Then, you get the promotion.
AFTER HYPNOSIS (even if you don’t get the outcome you wanted): Unconscious mind — "You should put in for that promotion." The new conscious mind encourages you, "That is a great idea. And, you apply for the job with a spring in your step and more confidence than your boss is use to seeing. And Nancy gets the job. You’re internal dialogue might sound like this. "That’s okay. Nancy is a hard worker too. I’m glad I applied for the promotion. Now my boss knows I’m interested in moving up in the company. It’s my time to shine. Bring on the next promotion."
It’s not my intention to over simply the powerful impact hypnosis can make on your life. When I was hypnotized for help to improve my confidence, I noticed changes right away. I had gone into this speciality store to pick up something for my wife. The woman next to me (there were two lines for 1 counter) said, "Good for you, ‘Happy Wife, Happy Life." Before I had much time to think about it, I blurted back, "Why is always, ‘Happy Wife, Happy Life’? Why can’t it be, "Happy Spouse, Happy House."? And I laughed. Then the woman said, "I’ve never thought of that before. I like that. I’m going to use that." I smiled and we all (a few others joined in with their appreciation of the new quote which is not original with me) had a good conversation about it. As I walked out the door, I smiled and thought too myself, "Who was that?" Then it hit me, it was the hypnosis. I smiled even bigger and soaked up my new found confidence.
Now that you know what hypnosis is and a little bit about how it works. What do you want to work on? What do you want to improve in your life? Will hypnosis really help you with "that"? Schedule a Discovery call so you can find out.
